Terms of use
Last updated: 4th October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and ReadWisely (“we”) for using ReadWisely. Please read them; they’re written to be clear.
1. What ReadWisely is
ReadWisely gives parents and carers guides to the books they read with children, with summaries, characters, questions, activities and tools to note progress. It helps you talk about books; it doesn’t replace reading them.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account. Accounts are for adults; children don’t use ReadWisely themselves.
- Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
- Only add children you’re the parent or carer of, or have permission to add.
3. Sharing with family
The account holder can invite up to 4 other adults, such as a partner, grandparent or childminder, to share their account. Shared adults see the same children and use the same book credits. The account holder is responsible for who they invite, and can remove them at any time. Only the account holder can change the plan.
4. Free trial
New accounts get a free trial of 7 days with 2 book credits. No payment details are needed. When the trial ends, you can keep viewing your guides and progress, but you’ll need a plan to add new books.
5. Plans and payment
- Plans are paid monthly or yearly, in advance, and renew automatically until you cancel.
- Each plan includes a number of book credits each month. Each new book you add uses one. Opening books already on your shelves and adding the same book for another child don’t use credits. Unused credits don’t carry over.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. If a payment fails, we’ll let you know; if it isn’t resolved, your plan may end.
- If we change our prices, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before your next payment at the new price, and you can cancel before then.
6. Cancelling
- You can cancel at any time from the Plan page. Your plan continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and won’t renew.
- Cooling-off: If you are a consumer, you have the right to cancel your subscription within 14 days of entering into the contract without giving a reason.
You may ask us to start providing the service immediately, including during the 14-day cooling-off period. If you cancel during this period, you will still have the right to cancel, but we may charge you for the services supplied to you up to the date you cancel.
Where you have used ReadWisely to create one or more Reading Checks before cancelling, we may charge you for those Reading Checks. Any amount charged will reflect the services actually supplied before cancellation and will not exceed the applicable amount payable under your subscription.
Any unused portion of your subscription will be refunded where required by law.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights. - You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. This cancels your plan and deletes your data, as explained in our privacy policy.
7. About our guides
- Guides are written with the help of AI and checked by automated rules. They can still contain mistakes. When we don’t know a book well, we say so and give questions that work for any story. Please use your own judgement, and tell us about anything wrong using “Report a problem”.
- Guides suggest questions and activities. You’re best placed to judge what suits your child.
8. Using ReadWisely fairly
Please don’t misuse the service: for example, by trying to access other families’ information, overloading our systems, copying guides in bulk, or using it for any unlawful purpose. Guides are for your family’s personal use. Book titles, characters and stories belong to their authors and publishers; we describe books in our own words and don’t reproduce their text.
9. Our responsibility to you
- We’ll provide the service with reasonable care and skill. If we don’t, contact us and we’ll try to put it right; you may also be entitled to a price reduction or refund under consumer law.
- We aim to keep ReadWisely available, but it may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
- We’re not responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
10. Ending your use
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, after telling you why where we can.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If changes are important, we’ll tell you before they take effect. If you don’t agree, you can cancel.
12. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there.
13. Contact
You can contact us through the Contact Us page on our website.
